Are there any positives?

Some detoxes involve adding more nutritious foods and drinks such as: colourful fruit and veggies, omega-3 fats, lemons, green tea - all which can help flush out toxins

Others promote elimination style diets to reduce inflammation (water weight), cutting out certain foods and reintroducing them to help find food intolerances - this can help you identify those foods and either stay way from them or keep them in moderation, however this can be a lengthy process.

Overall, I think it’s clear that the risks and stresses you put your body under outnumber the ‘benefits’ of the detox, and lets not forget get you can get the benefits of nutritious foods without being on a detox!

Fuel the body to detoxify itself!

The irony of a detox or cleanse diet is that it can actually inhibit the effectiveness of our body’s ability natural detoxify itself! Because of nutrient deficiencies & imbalances etc.

In the words of Precision Nutrition,  “The best way to “detox” the body is to ramp up your natural detoxification systems and to take good care of them in the long term — not to bypass them altogether, as you do when you’re on a detox diet.”

Remember… a three-day detox diet won’t move you across from ‘unhealthy’ to ‘healthy’ anywhere near as much as maintaining a healthy lifestyle the other 362 days of the year

Focus on nourishing your body with a variety of whole unprocessed foods and your body will take care of the rest.
