TRAVELLING SUPPLEMENTS: 1. ESSENTIALS
I thought this would be a good time to talk about travel supplements whilst I'm away in Africa for 3 weeks.
Some of these listed below (and on post 2) are staples in my everyday diet (marked with*), others are for when I'm going places where health supplements are less accessible and food choices are limited - such as Africa, I've also added a few extra to consider in the following post!
MULTIVITAMINS*: These are gold dust, I take them everyday, everywhere. They reduce the risk of nutrient deficiency, support energy levels (Vit B complex), support the immune system (Vit C & more), and contribute to a ton of other bodily processes.
Definitely worth considering - especially for travel purposes when food choices may be limited, think of them as your insurance policy!
PROTEIN POWDER*: This is useful to keep your protein levels adequate when abroad and aid muscle retention & recovery. Travel-wise, I'll either buy the powder already in a soft bag or put it into a zip-lock bag and haven't had any problems with this.
I mix it up as to which type to go with (whey, beef, vegan). When I went to Chile I knew I was going to have a lot of steaks! So I took a vegan blend with me to help balance the sources of aminos.
GREENS POWDER*: A blend of antioxidants, enzymes, phytonutrients, vitamins and minerals. Great for getting in your '5 a day' when whole food sources aren't available.
Other benefits are: alkalising dietary acids, support energy, recovery, antioxidant status, and bone health.
PROBIOTICS: When travelling these can be really important to help maintain beneficial bacteria in your gut to keep it healthy and strong, as well as boost your immune system - fighting off free radicals.
Other benefits are: helps with IBS and digestion, enhances nutrient absorption and reduces inflammation.
Stay Healthy & Happy!
